We visited our first of two Bateyes today. The day began with an hour bus ride through the beautiful, hilly, shades of green that make up the interior of the Dominican Republic. This is my third trip here, and I suddenly realized how much at peace I was. None of the nerves I experienced during my first two visits ... just peace. None of the trials awaiting me back home ... just peace. I felt more peace this morning than I have for quite awhile. And then I realized it is because the four of us are right where God wants us. Right where we are supposed to be. God has granted me that peace that surpasses all understanding. Don't get me wrong, I know there will be challenges, conflicts, last minute changes, and hard work. But God is there in His work.
1 John 1:7 says " But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin." Today I know I am walking in the light ... His light. It is a good feeling.
We began today what I would consider to be Fifty5five's mission, facilitating teacher training and conducting a vacation bible school. We are approaching it from a somewhat different direction. Instead of doing a teacher training, and then following it with a VBS, we are conducting them somewhat more concurrently. In the morning we had the pleasure of doing the first part of a teacher training with a group of Dominican Republic youth. After which, this afternoon, we immediately conducted day 1 of VBS, demonstrating the principles learned earlier in the day, and providing a opportunity for the teachers to immediately practice skills learned.
I believe it is working well. A number of the young teachers naturally moved into positions of leadership, using the skills learned. Three of them truly stood out and I look forward to watching them, as well as the others, mature over the next few days.
Your prayers can be felt at all times. Thank you! And please continue to pray for a fruit filled mission trip.
