Fifty5five's ministry began in the small village of Haulover on the east coast of Nicaragua. A group of fifteen volunteers carried 1,800 pounds of children's ministry supplies over muddy, unpaved roads to the village, where they spent two weeks ministering to the children of the community. During the visit, local church staff received training and then worked alongside Fifty5five during a five-day Vacation Bible School.
Friendships were formed and children's lives were touched. God blessed the effort mightily, with more than 400 children attending the Vacation Bible School and approximately 250 responding to the altar call and confessing Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
Since that first trip, we have seen the Lord open numerous doors as He continues to prepare our hearts and lives for this ongoing work.
Fifty5five has designed workshops to train local church staff in how to establish and lead a fruitful children's ministry. The training covers everything from leadership and storytelling to lesson reinforcement, methods for teaching life application, and classroom management. We see this training as a foundational part of our calling, helping ensure that the work of the Lord continues long after Fifty5five has left.
In Fifty5five's experience, when people are facing overwhelming poverty, we often witness God's grace abounding in remarkable ways. Scripture tells us that God has chosen the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of His Kingdom. In communities where basic needs and material resources are limited, we have seen people consider matters of faith and eternity with great depth. It is our desire to help those facing poverty understand their eternal hope through the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
