It was so fun to see the Jamaican teachers at the training session today dance around, laugh, wear tin foil wings with a halo and sword, and smell sinky tuna. They not only did this, but they were brave and asked some of the best and most compelling questions. All of this made my day.
We started the day introducing classroom structure. One of the best questions was on discipline. It was beautiful to see the light bulb go on and that the simple visual of classroom management we offered made since. Also the fact that discipline administered in kindness is the Godly and loving thing to do. (Wow I'm learning too!)
After that we went into the learning styles and the five senses. The stories really showed the teachers how meeting needs of specific learners really opens up the gateway of learning. Touch, sight, smell, taste, hearing. The group of teachers participated in the touch story which was the resurrection eggs. Each person opened up an egg revealing part of the story of Jesus death and resurrection. They saw how simple it could be to engage children and teach them about Jesus' great gift to us. In addition when we did the learning styles; the one that had the people dancing and laughing was the prodigal son story. To see a 6 foot man chuckling and some of the ladies dancing and singing; "money ma, money, money," The participants saw how a biblical truth can be super impactful.
This teacher training in Jamacia has been a sweet and really special.
It's been nice because they have felt free to ask questions and I see the wheels turning..."Yeah! I can take that back to my class.
What a glorious way to see the gospel message goes out.
