A Birthday Celebration

We had the pleasure of celebrating a young man's fifteenth birthday today. He is one of the teacher trainees we are mentoring during the morning sessions. Knowing it was his birthday, we took a few minutes to stop on the way to the batey and pick up a birthday cake, then after lunch the entire group, teacher trainees and Fifty5five members sang birthday wishes and cut the cake. If would be far to easy to leave the story there, but when you become immersed in the lives of others, you find out there is much more to the person and the story than is readily evident.

In this case, this young man was spending a very lonely birthday, having only his brother to enjoy the day with. Sadly, his father doesn't seem to be in the picture, and his mother died very recently. I don't have many details, except that she died in his arms. God however is ever faithful, and provided his church family to love him. I feel blessed to have been able to have a small part in it.

1 John 3:23

And this is his commandment, that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he has commanded us.

We continued today with our morning teacher training, and did another piece of vacation bible school. The Dominican Republic teacher trainees are beginning to amaze me. After teacher training today, we pretty much turned the VBS program over to them. They not only were able to take over, they did so amazingly well, with strength and confidence. So much so, I had an opportunity to take a walk in the batey and capture a few photos. I hope you enjoy them.

God bless you, and please continue to pray for your mission!
